Obituary For Erdith Eugene Johnson
Erdith Eugene Johnson, 84, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born October 7, 1940 to the late William Erdith Johnson and the late Cleo Stephens Johnson. Eugene answered the call of duty with unwavering dedication and commitment, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 5 February 1963 - 13 January 1967 during which he served in support of the Vietnam War effort in the Kingdom of Thailand for 11 months and 18 days. He would continue to serve his country by serving in the Mississippi Army National Guard from 16 December 1983 - 6 October 2000, deploying in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Eugene's service to our community is undeniable with his service within the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of which he was a pivotal Officer providing support and guidance for over 36 years. Eugene showed his great love for his fellow Veterans by serving as the Itawamba County Veteran Service Officer from 1 November 1993 - 1 June 2016, providing guidance and benefits on average of $700,000 per year to the Veterans and Families of Itawamba County. Eugene was a staple of the Itawamba County Courthouse and some would say he was the boss. Eugene's love for our nation was undeniable, as he faced adversity with bravery and grace. He embodied the principles of duty, honor, and courage that define the finest soldiers among us. He stood tall and resolute in the face of danger, protecting our freedoms and the values we hold dear. He was a member of Gum Church of Christ. He loved watching Western movies.
Service will be 4:00 pm on Thursday March 27, 2025, at Senter Funeral Home with Minister Brady Ramey officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm Thursday all in the Senter Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include his cousins: Lynette Peoples, Patricia Ann (Jerry) Rye, Linda Kay (Jack) Gaspard, Barbara Lumber, Jan White, Donna Cromeans; and his caregivers and nephew, Bobby (Amanda) White of Smithville. Many other extended family, friends, and co-workers.
Preceded in death by his parents.
