Obituary For Billy Wayne Wood

September 18,1938 - February 14, 2025
It is with heavy hearts, but joyful spirits, that we announce the passing of Billy W. Wood: Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Great-Great Grandfather & Friend, who left us peacefully on February 14, 2025. On a day that celebrates love around the world, it is fitting for the way he lived and the way he loved his family & friends. Prior to passing, he had glimpses of his heavenly home & family who awaited him there. At 11:14PM, He passed from this life into eternity - that beautiful home where pain & sorrow is no more.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin Lee Wood & Verdie Sparks Wood; His Siblings: Kenneth Wood, Junior Wood, J.D. Wood, Joyce Lee Cleveland & Lois Steele.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dovie Taylor Wood; Five daughters: Judy Franks (Jeff) of Mantachie; Deborah Tierce (Larry) of Tupelo: Mitzi Moore (Eddie) of Fulton; Karen Wood (Chris Strange) of Fulton; Sharon Franks (Mike) of Fulton. Honorary Mention of his granddaughter, Elaina Johnson Kingsley, Registered Nurse, who was his right arm assistant and caregiver, along with his Home Care Nurse, Sarah Martin of NMMC Home Health Services.
He was a grandfather to 13 grandchildren of whom he adored: Suzanne Sheffield (Blair) of Dorsey; Carrie Satterfield (Max) of Tupelo; Candice Pitts (Tom) of Mantachie; Cassie Jo Tierce of Tupelo; Benjamin Wilemon (Bailey) of Golden; Samantha Payne (Kory) of Fulton; Elaina Kingsley (Alex) Fulton; Mikey Franks of Fulton; Cayden Mitchell of Fulton; Corey Moore (Brittany); Anna Beth Thomas (Justin); C.J. Strange (Megan); and Eli Strange.
And Blessed Beyond Measure with 28 Great Grandchildren & 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Billy dedicated 55 years of his life in public service as owner & operator of the Billy Wood Body Shop & Wrecker Service. Outside of his profession, he owned & operated the Fulton Dragway from 1970-1978 & was an avid race enthusiast who loved Drag-Racing, NASCAR, & NBA Basketball. He could hold forth in depth conversations about fine tuning fast engines & the nuances of crossing the finish line first! He often entertained family & friends with captivating tales of his youth. He will be missed by many!
Funeral will be at 2:00 Monday, February 17, 2025, at Senter Funeral Home with Brother Kerry Lee Peden, Bro. Roger Dale Wood, and Bro. Tommy Galloway officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am Monday, Feb. 17 at Senter Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. In a private ceremony, Billy Wood will make his one final pass down the Fulton Dragway.
